Link Worker Scheme


          Reduce the spread of HIV and incidence of STI in rural area of Jalgaon district of Maha State through the networking with existing Govt. Health establishes system. With the help of village community implement the Link Worker Scheme in 100 villages of Jalgoan Districts.

 

          It is an evidence of 57% of HIV population is from rural area. With low literacy level and low level of awareness of HIV/AIDs making it is one of the most challenging health problems ever faced by the country 90% of HIV transmission in India is related to unprotected sexual intercourse. The core high risk group of individuals are most at risk female sex worker, MSM, Injective drug users. The epidemic will not be controlled but the positive implication is that of HIV prevention is successful among this HRGs the epidemic will be substantially curtailed.

 

          Jalgaon is one of the High prevalence district of HIV in Maharashtra. There are around 3500 to 4000 FSWs exiting in Jalgaon district. Jalgaon district have a border of state Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat is easily connected with railway and have a big industrial area so incoming and outgoing both migration of single male is high.

 

          Aadhar Sanstha working in rural community mobilization (Link Worker Scheme) since March 2010 with the Support of National AIDs Control organization (NACO), Maharashtra State AIDs control Society (MSACS) and Avert Society, Mumbai under the project Aadhar covering 100 vulnerable villages form. Jalgaon district of Maharashtra State.

 

Objective


  • Reach out the vulnerable Young People and HRGs with information knowledge and skills on HIV and STI prevention and risk reduction
  • Create and enabling and environment for PLHIVs and their families by reducing stigma and discrimination 
  • PLHIVs promote increase and consistent use of condom
  • Counseling services for prevention and care support to HIV
  • Strengthening Village community for sustainability

 

Target Group


 

HRGs-Female sex worker (FSW), Man having sex with man (MSM)

 

Vulnerable -Vul.Man and Women- Trucker, Cleaners, Clint of partner of FSW, person living with HIV/Aids, Youth, Migrant and single women.

 

Achievements


  • 100 HRG villages identified for implementing the scheme for the district.
  • Accurate and train local people-40 Link worker and 1300 volunteers
  • Increase knowledge about HIV transmission risk behavior, regular testing of HRGs and vulnerable people for HIV prevention.
  • Increase use of condom by HRGs and their partners.
  • Increase utilization of STI management.
  • Referral and linkages of government health services regarding HIV in rural area
  • Reduced stigma and discrimination against PLHIVs and their families.
